6.27 Update

Welcome the to final update in June. Much like last week, work is progressing on many fronts–so let’s jump right in. Warning: this is gonna be a long one…

Probably the busiest guys right now are the painters. They’ve painted the lower classrooms (as I noted last week), and then they moved up into the lobby. Here’s Ken in action:

And a completed shot (from a different perspective) a bit later:

Here’s the bookstore:

That’s only a small taste of what they’ve been up to. The drywallers have largely completed their work and are out to other jobs; so there’s a lot of coating, priming and painting going on…

Also in the lobby, Renaud has been taking these:

And putting them in place:

Some of the other carpenters have been installing the stained wraps around the entry area:

And they’ve been working on the gigantic cold air return areas. First they painted the ductwork and then they framed to support the paneling:

The final trim work came preassembled:

And here it is in place:

Once the Auditorium entry is done, final clean-up can begin and the painters can paint the MDF panels.

The electricians have been installing floor boxes (for power and Ethernet) throughout the building:

They’ve installed the uplights by the front porch posts:

And they’ve hooked up many of the electronic systems in the entryway (rescue assistance, fire alarm, etc.):

The tile guys have made great progress on the ladies restroom:

The plywood strip is a place holder for a trim piece that hasn’t arrived yet. The glass guys also installed the mirrors in the ladies’ room:

And the men’s room:

Soon the partitions will be assembled and installed from these acrylic panels:

And these fixtures will be installed as well:

Also in the lobby, the masons have been working on the ground-face block that covers part of the elevator shaft. Here’s the lower level:

And here’s the main level. The top course has a chamfered edge, which will transition to the siding above:

And the suspended ceiling guys have been working in many of the classrooms. Here’s one example:

The ductwork guys completed an important step Monday night. They had to run these stacks from the boilers:

Up through the roof (on the edge of the dormer):

Now the roofers can finish the south side. Here they are working on the flashing around the other dormer:

Staying outside, we find a strange sight:

I guess Andy will hire anyone…

In case you didn’t recognize him, that’s the hard-working Quay Hanna, of course.

Here’s a quick run around the outside of the building. The east side is on pause until next week:

The west side is done:

The north side is in progress. The storage room stone is applied and mostly-grouted:

And the concrete guys have been prepping for the entry porch:

And sidewalks:

But it’s the south side that is seeing the most activity. Here’s one shot:

You may notice that there’s steel in place for the second deck stair (behind the mini excavator), on the east end of the deck:

And the forms are being placed for the curving sidewalk above the amphitheater:

The concrete guys have also stripped the forms off the deck:

Another shot:

And they’ve begun to form the final section:

They’ve done two pours on the lower patio. Pour 1:

Pour 2:

They’ve also poured a walk at the lower drop off (that’s Honeysuckle in the background):

And the masons have constructed the supports for the west deck stairs:

The plan is to pour those stairs and the rest of the deck next week.

BR Kreider has also been prepping the lots for paving and filling in around the building:

And we’ve been selling off part of our topsoil pile:

It won’t be entirely gone until this fall; but just like everything else on-site, it’s a little bit cleaner now. There are still many steps to take over the next 5 1/2 weeks; but we are moving along at a good clip.

Until next week.

So excited about the entry porch! Especially after bringing Dad to church on Sunday with a wheelchair. It took 3 men to get the wheelchair over the curb at the doorway………so excited about our new entry!!

I can hardly believe my eyes. The details that are going into this massive project boggle my mind, and I’m only seeing a fraction of this undertaking.
(makes me remember that God is in the details of my little ol’ simple life too)
Did I see a fire place in these photos? Don’t tell me YOUR CHURCH is going to have a fire place? Not fair!
All these years of faithfulness (His and Yours!) coming together to produce a city on a hill. Wow. I can’t wait for opening day! I want to be there when it happens!
My best to all the folks at Crossway. Way to go!
