5.30 Update

So much for May. Hard to believe that June is almost here–it was only June 26 of last year that we all got together on the hilltop and broke ground for this building. Remember that? And it was July 5 that the contractors actually broke ground. Here’s an early shot as they began to sculpt what became our main retention basin:

Ah, memories. We’ve come a long way in 10 months. Yestereday the guys from BR Kreider were pumping and scraping out the forebay in preparation for some work on the stage area (notice how the contours have changed between the two pictures…):

Of course, last night’s rain means that pump’ll be running again this morning. Meanwhile, the outside of the building continues to progress. Here’s the view of the progress on the north side of the roof:

And here’s the view of the backside, from Honeysuckle Ln. Still a long way to go here:

The masons have been making great progress. The south wall is coming together:

They’ve also relocated their mixing station to the SE corner of the building, so that they’re out of the way for the curbing that will begin to be staked out this week:

And the siding guys are plugging away. Here’s the beginning of the board-and-batten system above the deck:

They should complete the rest of the south side by the end of the week:

Then the scaffolding will come down and the concrete guys will be out next week to prep for pouring the deck.

So, that’s all for the exterior. Inside, the masons have finished the exterior kitchen wall:

Inside the kitchen, they’ve hung the range hood:

And they’ve prepped the chimney. First the framers hung the OSB:

Then the masons set the scaffold:

And applied the scratch coat:

Stone will be coming soon. There’s also been a fair bit of drywall being hung. Here is the 1 year-olds’ room:

And here’s one of the kids’ bathrooms:

Yesterday they delivered 5 skids of the stuff:

There are also 2 large dehumidifiers running to help the mud and paint to cure:

Yesterday we also received some of the casework from Geoff Sensenig:

You’d never recognize him, but that’s Renaud deVitry in the gray shirt on the right. He’s been hired to install the panels and casework.

And the first MDF panels arrived from Saner Millwork. That’s another Crossway connection, via Amanda Palmatier:

The installation of these panels should be straight-forward, thanks to a lot of hard work from Jim Kish in keeping the layout spot-on, from months ago all the way through today. Here he’s laying everything out on the plywood. In the foreground you can see the prints and the construction calculator that he’s using for precision:

And here’s the first panel being hung. They came pre-primed from the factory, and they’ll be painted in the room:

Speaking of painters, they’ve been painting the main truss:

And the electricians have mounted the motors for the enormous fans on that truss:

Here’s a close up. The blades will be 12′ long:

The painters are also painting the big I-beams in the lobby:

And they’ve completed the paint on the east wall:

Meanwhile, the mechanical systems are coming along. Here are a few more pieces in the mechanical room:

And they’ve made the supply and return hook-ups in the upper mezzanines:

They’ve also installed the safety railing up there:

The plumbers have installed some mop sinks:

Finally, we conclude with the water fountain mounts. Interesting fact of the day: in Wisconsin, they call them “bubblers”:

Until next week.

I agree it is both amazing and exciting and though I have only been there a couple of times I am always “in the loop”! Thank you

I agree, Jack! I’ve only been there a couple of times, too…..but because of all of Steve’s work to keep us posted…..we feel in the loop. Thanks, Steve.
