One of my favorite things about this time of year is heading to the beach. What’s not to love about the sun, wind and the waves? (Though ask my husband and he would have a completely different perspective!) I have initiated many things over the years: “Cousins beach trip” and day trips with friends got me there a number of times. But a few years back I began a tradition with my daughters. Next month we will be having our 4th annual girls beach trip.
As I dug through my photos to find pictures of our past trips, it struck me again how little time I have with these precious girls. They are growing so quickly. God has given them to me for a short season to enjoy and to train. This time together is just a small way in which I can show my love and affection for them.
Here are three things that I love about going to the beach with my girls:
1. Cultivating our friendship. I love all the stages that my kids go through, but as they are getting older I am seeing more and more that someday these girls are going to be my closest friends. They are little women and I love their personalities and perspectives on life.
2. Creating memories. I want them to remember this time with love and affection. It makes my heart so happy to hear them say that this trip is one of the highlights of their summer.
3. I love seeing my kids enjoy things that I enjoy. They are thrilled with trinkets in the boardwalk stores, the funnel cakes, and the rides. These were all things that I enjoyed as a girl.
I know that many of you also have your own summer traditions. I would love to hear them!!

Oh, so fun, Lori. My beach days with my boys were my favorite days with them. I am so glad that I made the effort to do it. If I could reach back to the younger mom that I was I would have said….”Yes, this is worth it! These will be your favorite days with them.”
Now I’m starting “beach days” with my grand-daughters. (although I think we’ll miss this year….) But I look forward to many beach days with them ahead. It’s so great at the beach…..there’s not much to do but rest and talk and swim and talk and rest and talk….
i love this, Lori! i am tucking this away for when my sweeties are a bit older. xo
