New tunes

Music does us good.  This morning, I’d love to introduce some new tunes that will serve several purposes:

  • Christmas readiness.  Our own Cliff Lewis has for several months now been crafting a Christmas release, titled aptly: “Xmas Movie Soundtrack“.  Cliff has always been sharp with creating creative and compelling melodies with an equally sharp aptitude with forming intelligent and memorable lyrics.  This latest EP is no exception.   The standout for me is the haunting “Burning Babe” which puts an old poem from early 1600′s to new music.  The album is available at Bandcamp for perusal or purchase.  Keep writing, Cliff!!

  • Revelation songs.  I’d love to throw into our mix of songs for worship some tunes that will help us to reflect on the truths we are encountering in the book of Revelation.  2 songs, one “old” and one new will be added in the weeks ahead.  For your edification, take a listen:

Revelation Song

Come Lord Jesus, Come

Now, 2 music-related questions for you:

  1. Are there any songs that you’ve heard recently that you’ve thought would make a wonderful addition to our Sunday morning worship times?
  2. What Christmas carols/songs would you love to have as a part of our worship times in the weeks leading up to Christmas?

You know, there are so many great songs in our almost-thirty-year-old history that we haven’t sang for sooo long. If you were to pull some of those out for worship they would be “new” to half or maybe even most in our church. And I would love to sing some of those again.

What I would REALLY like is to have all of the songs we’ve sung in our history printed into a book for my own use at home. That would be great! It would even include Carol Snavely’s That You Should Stoop So Low and other simple, yet profound songs. I cherish some of those old classics. They provide nourishment and encouragement for my soul.

Doug, you do a great job of leading us in worship. Thank you for using your God-given gifts and abilities to lead us in worship and praise.

I’ve always liked “Come Lord Jesus, Come”

    Doug,
I would like to apologize. I read back over my comments the next day and although I was sharing my true thoughts and wishes about adding new songs to our worship time, my comments did not seem gracious and /or appropriate. Sorry about that.

To answer the second question I would be very pleased to sing Oh Holy Night for Christmas.

  4. Doug Plank says:

Joanne, please know that your thoughts/comments are very welcome…that’s why I asked! No need to apologize. I appreciate your feedback. There are so many “oldie but goodie” songs out there, ones we’ve sung at key points of LCC/Crossway history. What are some of those songs that come to your mind?
