I won’t leave you in suspense: we poured our first footer on Monday. And by we, I mean they…which is to say, the concrete subcontractors. Here’s the footage:
And here are some shots of how they got there. First, the excavators came in to dig:
They dug what our Project Manager, Jim, from CH&E, had already marked out:
Then they took these pre-cut and pre-bent piles of rebar:
And started assembling them into shapes like this:
And here is the result, freshly poured:
All the while, I brought in my prime inspector to keep a close eye on things:
Yesterday was the second pour. Here is the rebar set:
And here is the fresh pour:
On the site work side, progress continues. More storm water management:
And the amphitheater continues to ascend. Row 2:
Row 3:
As the levels are finished, Andy’s guys will scatter the grass seed, as well as put in some of these beautiful, 18-20′ tall Tulip Poplars (being stored alongside the red barn):
So exciting progress is afoot. We’re actually building a building! More to come next week.

Very exciting!
Yay! It’s all very surreal, which just means I need to get up there and have a peek!
Woo hoo!!!
Thanks for this fabulous play-by-play, Steve! So exciting–and interesting. Can you please tell your prime inspector that I think he’s really cute!
Wonderful! I wish I could be there to see it all. Thanks for the play-by-play.
How did that amphitheater idea come about? I think it’s a really cool idea.
Glad to know we have an inspector on the job! Thanks for keeping us updated! So exciting!
